The firm
A holding company built for succession.
Lambton is a holding company based in Manchester. We acquire established private companies across the United Kingdom when their founders step back, and we hold them for the long term. The businesses we buy keep trading as themselves.
What we are
Lambton is a permanent owner of private companies. We buy businesses from their founders and we keep them — there is no clock on our ownership and no planned sale at the end of it.
The businesses we hold keep their name, their people and their premises. They serve the same customers, led by the managers who know them. Our job is to be a steady owner, not a new identity.
The group grows by acquisition, slowly and deliberately. We add a company when the fit is right, not to hit a number. Head office stays small; the businesses do the work.
Principles
We buy to hold.
We do not buy businesses in order to sell them. Once a company joins the group, it stays.
The name over the door still matters.
A name that took decades to earn should not vanish on the day a sale completes. Every business we hold keeps its own.
The people carry on.
A business is the people who run it day to day. When we take over, they keep their jobs and they keep their say.
Deals done in plain English.
An offer from us sets out what we will pay, how, and when. If a sentence needs a lawyer to translate it, we rewrite the sentence.
We think in decades.
We would rather wait for the right business than hurry into the wrong one. Decisions made for the next decade beat decisions made for the next quarter.
Thinking about what comes next?
